Web accessibility

Maximising the impact of your site

Web sites are one of the most accessible services available to people with disabilities largely because web standards and technologies have pushed design in this area over the last few years. It is now relatively easy to make simple changes to the design and implementation of a website to improve access for all. Equally, it is relatively easy to take an approach which causes your site to be relatively inaccessible to those with disabilities.

The methods used to make a site friendly to screen readers and other enhancing technologies are equally useful to improve search engine performance and can improve a site's performance with other audiences too. Unfortunately, many sites still have not adopted the latest techniques to improve access and this causes problems for many visitors.

The way to think about this is to ask yourself whether you would turn away one in ten of your customers from your shop door? Of course you wouldn't, so why would you do the same at your web site if there are simple methods to encourage those customers to browse your site and become real customers (and in doing so, also enhance the experience for your other nine customers)?

Redcentaur can help

Redcentaur automatically considers accessibility within their designs and builds into their web site construction the methods and techniques to enhance the experience for visitors with disabilities.

For existing sites, this becomes slightly more complicated but simple improvements can be made that will improve and enhance your site's performance. Redcentaur can provide you with a detailed report identifying the improvements we would recommend, or we can offer to undertake the necessary work for you. The cost for this varies depending on the work required and a fully costed quote will be made available if requested. A detailed report is available for £119.
